How to Add Drawers to The Bathroom Vanity?

Step 1:  Placement of the Drawers

It is important to balance out the drawers of the vanity, so take into account the location of any cabinets the vanity may have and the location inside the vanity itself.

Step 2:  Measure the Vanity

You can find out the exact dimensions of the bathroom vanity with a tape measure. You will be able to determine the most appropriate size of the drawers you plan to install. Take the measurements more than once to obtain the most accurate reading. Once you are sure of the measurements, write them down on a piece of paper and have them on hand when you shop or when you purchase drawers online.

Step 3: Order Drawers

Start by measuring with great care and then go to a home improvement store or buy drawers online. If you have a similar wood, go for an exact type. Paint the drawers so that they match the rest of the vanity or choose a contrasting color for a bolder look. If you don't need to paint, stain the drawers. Also buy drawer handles or knobs, as well as slides.

Step 4:  Paint Drawers

If you're happy with the drawer as it is and want to apply stain later, skip this step. Paint the drawers before assembling and installing them. If you haven't decided on the color yet, or if you're not sure how it will look on the grain of the wood, paint a few strokes and let dry. Paint the drawers and let them dry for a few hours or overnight after deciding on the color.

Step 5: Assemble Drawers

You can put together the drawers according to the instructions supplied with the drawer. You should use glue where necessary, and hammer parts together as instructed in the instructions. If using the hammer, use scrap wood as a cushion to avoid damaging the drawer. Use a towel to wipe off excess glue.

Step 6: Assemble Drawer Slides

The slide rollers should be attached to the bottom corner edges of the drawers.

Step 7: Apply Finish

You can apply stain to finish the look and two to three coats of polyurethane to the drawer fronts if you decide the drawers don't need paint.
