How to Clean Shower Curtains and Shower Curtain Liners

The soap scum, dust, mold, and mildew that are produced due to the heat and moisture, all together accumulate on the shower curtain and make it so dirty that we avoid touching it.

When it comes to how to clean shower curtains and liners, several questions arise such as whether we could put them in a washer and whether we could use bleach on them. There are many people that use the shower curtain until it gets very dirty and then replace it with a new one. In fact, you need neither to add waste to the earth nor to overspend!

Follow the instructions below. This way you will easily create a brighter, healthier, and fresher environment in your bathroom and extend the life of your shower curtain.

1- Remove the rings of your curtain and liner. Take it off of the shower rod. Before moving to the next step, check the label to see the washing instructions.

2- Most of the shower curtains, including the plastic ones, can be cleaned in a washing machine. So, toss it into the washer. Add a couple of white towels so that they will scrub the curtains inside. Add regular detergent. If you need deep cleaning, you can also add some bleach. Unless your curtain is already white, choose a color-safe bleach. Wash in warm water.

3- Remove the shower curtain as soon as the rinse cycle is complete to avoid musty smells and wrinkles. Shake it once or twice and simply hang it up to dry. If you need it to dry faster, you can use a dry towel before hanging it up on the rod.

You can use this time to clean the rings of your shower curtain as well: remove the rings from the rod. Fill the sink with warm water and add a cup of white vinegar. Soak the rings inside and then rinse them. You can remove any stubborn dirt with the help of a brush.

If your shower curtain and liner have some heavy stains, it is better to treat them before tossing the curtain and liner into the washer. Fill your bathroom tub or large sink and soak the curtain in warm water that also includes a cup of bleach. Keep it there for around 30 minutes. You can also use a sponge or a scrub brush. Apply a stain remover or some baking soda to the dirty area and scrub it until the dirt or mold comes off.

Keeping the shower curtain clean is as important as knowing how to clean it when necessary. After each shower, you can apply some cleaning spray to prevent mildew and mold from growing and accumulating. Increasing the quality of air circulation in your bathroom, if possible, also extends the life of your shower curtain.

Follow these steps and get a fresh and healthy bathroom!
